Description
Do your students need a fun, low-pressure way to practice opinion writing — and do you need something that works all year long? These fall, winter, spring, and summer “This or That” would you rather opinion writing games might be exactly what you’ve been missing.
Each seasonal set gets kids up and moving while also giving them real practice forming and writing opinions. Students pick a side — literally — and then back up their choice in writing with three supporting reasons. It’s engaging, it’s structured, and it works across the whole school year.
WHAT YOU WILL GET:
- 20 “This or That” choice cards per season (fall, winter, spring, and summer)
- Choice cards in both PDF and PowerPoint format
- One opinion writing worksheet per choice card
- A blank template that works with any “Would you rather?” question
How the game works:
Show students a card and have them move to the side of the room that matches their choice. There are no right or wrong answers — just opinions. It’s a quick, easy way to get kids moving and talking before they sit down to write.
The writing component:
Each choice card comes with its own writing worksheet that gives students a clear structure for stating their opinion and explaining it with three supporting reasons. The blank template means you can use it with any other “Would you rather?” questions you come up with on your own, so it doesn’t stop being useful once you’ve worked through the cards.
This activity works well as an introduction to your opinion writing unit, a brain break, an inside recess activity, or an ice breaker when students are coming back from a long break. It’s also a great option for class parties before winter holiday, spring break, or the end of the year — something students actually enjoy that still has real writing practice built in.
