Easy Valentine Snack Ideas for Classroom Parties

February is that point in the school year when everyone is tired. The kids are tired of listening to you, you’re tired of them, and the end isn’t anywhere in sight. Now mix in some unpredictable weather (inside recess, yuck!), test prep, and having to plan for Valentine’s Day. I’m pretty sure February is every teacher’s least favorite month. A fun Valentine’s Day classroom party actually sounds great – but for me, at this time of year, it’s got to be easy and low-stress. So today, I want to share some Valentine snack ideas for the classroom that are really all you need to give your students a special day.

Before jumping into my snack ideas, let’s be honest about what usually happens at school parties. Time is limited, the kids are overly excited, and you might have a parent volunteer, or you might not. That’s why easy treats with minimal, easy prep matter. If it takes more than a few steps, it probably isn’t worth it. The snacks don’t need to be the star of the show. They just need to be edible and not a mess.

So let’s take a look at a few of my favorites!

This post will give you easy snacks for your class party that are:

  • fun and festive
  • affordable
  • kid-friendly
  • and not a huge production

Valentine Snack Ideas for Classroom Parties

Rice Krispie Hearts

Rice Krispies treats never fail. They’re inexpensive, easy to make in a big batch, and every kid will eat one.

Here’s how to make these homemade treats extra special for Valentine’s Day:

  • mix in pink or red sprinkles
  • cut them out with a heart-shaped cookie cutter
  • put tiny candies or conversation hearts on top
  • dip the bottom in melted chocolate

Wrap them in clear plastic wrap with pretty ribbon and you have instant party favors.

Marshmallow Pops

Marshmallow pops look like you did a lot of work, but they’re actually very simple.

You will need:

  • pretzel sticks
  • large marshmallows
  • white chocolate (melting chips work best)
  • red food coloring
  • sprinkles

Stick one marshmallow on the end of each pretzel. Melt the chocolate and stir in a couple of drops of food coloring. Dip each marshmallow halfway into the chocolate. Immediately roll in sprinkles. Set the marshmallow pops on a greased cookie sheet or parchment paper to dry (wax paper will stick).

These are quick to make and a really fun treat. If you want, add a small tag with a sweet message.

Love Bug Fruit Cups

These are one of my favorites because they’re quick, cute, and qualify as a healthy Valentine snack.

All you need is:

  • clear plastic cups
  • colorful fruits cut into bite-sized pieces
  • mini pretzel sticks
  • mini marshmallows
  • googly eyes
  • pink or red construction paper

Cut hearts out of the paper. Glue or tape one heart to the back of each cup to look like wings. Stick a pair of googly eyes on the front of each cup (you can actually buy self-stick ones). Fill with pieces of fruit. Add 2 pretzel sticks with mini marshmallows for antennae. That’s it! Little kids love these adorable love bug fruit cups and you won’t get any parent complaints about too much candy at your Valentine’s party.

Valentine Fruit Kabobs

Fruit kabobs are another healthy option and are great for older kids!

You need:

  • wood skewers
  • strawberries (cut in half)
  • blueberries
  • grapes
  • mini marshmallows (buy heart-shaped ones for Valentine’s Day!)

If you don’t want to worry about sharp skewers, just snip the pointy ends off with scissors. To make this more of a sweet treat, melt a little chocolate (melting wafers work great) and let kids dip or drizzle their kabob. You can use milk, dark, or white chocolate for this.

Fruit kabobs are a great option if you’re trying to offer somewhat healthy snacks at your school party but still keep it fun.

Red Velvet Puppy Chow

This is a fun variation on Valentine’s snack mix. It’s super easy, tasty, and you can make a big batch really quickly.

You’ll need:

  • 1 box Chex cereal
  • 24 oz melted white chocolate
  • 1 box red velvet cake mix
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 cup M&Ms or mini chocolate chips

Mix everything in a large ziploc bag and shake. That’s it! You can give each student a little cupful or pour it into individual goodie bags.

DIY Valentine Trail Mix

This is my favorite idea because it’s SO EASY and students get to create the snack they want.

You will need:

  • enough popcorn for the class
  • mini marshmallows
  • conversation hearts
  • Valentine’s Day M&Ms
  • mini pretzels
  • white chocolate chips
  • dried cranberries

Give each student a small bowl of popcorn. Set up a station with all the other ingredients in their own bowls. Let students visit the station to choose their own toppings. I suggest having a parent volunteer supervise and help younger kids with this.

Chocolate-Covered Strawberries

If you have a little extra time or a parent volunteer to help, chocolate-covered strawberries make nice special treats.

Dip the strawberries in melted chocolate, drizzle with white chocolate, and add sprinkles. They look fancy without being complicated. Older students will be really impressed!

Keeping It Simple

Your Valentine’s Day party does not need to be elaborate. The kids do not care if the napkins coordinate with the plates. When it comes to a holiday at school, they care that:

  • it’s different from a normal day
  • there are special treats
  • they get to celebrate with their friends

If you don’t want to use plain paper plates and cups, it’s easy to give your party a Valentine’s Day theme by visiting your dollar store. You can find all of these items in holiday designs:

  • cups
  • napkins
  • plates
  • containers for snacks

If your students are exchanging cards, you can join in with a printable valentine paired with a little treat.

That’s all it takes for a fun Valentine’s Day celebration that will make the day feel special without spending a ton of time and money.
