This is a set of word sorts and companion worksheets for learning R-controlled vowels. Word sorting is a great way to build phonemic awareness and phonics skills!

 

Includes:

  • 60 picture word cards ( 12 for each R controlled vowel )

  • 5 heading cards (ar, er, ir, or, ur)

  • Recording sheets

  • Digital word sort activities

 

For each picture card, students will say the word and determine which R controlled vowel pair is missing. The cards can be sorted by spelling pattern and recorded on the recording sheet.

This is an excellent activity for your word work literacy centers, spelling practice, phonics instruction, or speech development.
