Synonyms Activities for Upper Elementary
These synonyms activities are designed to build vocabulary in third through fifth grade. Your students will use context clues and their understanding of other words (synonyms) to determine the meaning of new words.
Includes the following:
Synonyms Scavenger Hunt
This activity consists of 30 sentence cards that you place around the room. Each sentence contains an underlined word. Students have a recording sheet with synonyms for each of these words. Students walk the room, reading each sentence as they find them, and mark the synonym on their recording sheet.
Synonyms Partnering Activity
This is a fun whole-group activity to build vocabulary. Give each student a word card and then see how fast they can find their synonym partners. Includes 60 words so you can play multiple times with new words.
Synonyms Worksheets
There are 3 worksheets with answer keys. Each worksheet contains 10 sentences. Students read each sentence and replace the target word with its synonym from the word bank.
