Description

Teaching first graders to read and interpret picture graphs takes practice, and finding worksheets that actually cover the right skills without a lot of prep on your end can be harder than it sounds.

This resource gives your students focused, repeated practice with pictographs — reading them, answering questions about them, and even collecting their own data to build one from scratch. Everything is print-and-go, so there is nothing to prep or set up before you hand it out.

WHAT YOU WILL GET:

  • 12 pictograph worksheets
  • 3 collecting data worksheets
  • Answer keys

Pictograph Worksheets:

Each of the 12 worksheets features a picture graph with 3 categories and 4 questions that walk students through the key skills — finding totals, reading individual categories, and comparing amounts using more and less. There is also a challenge question on every sheet that pushes students to think a little deeper. These challenge questions work especially well as a discussion prompt during guided math or when students are working with a partner.

Both vertical and horizontal graphs are included, so students get practice reading picture graphs in both orientations, which matches what they are likely to see on assessments.

Collecting Data Worksheets:

The 3 data collection worksheets take things a step further by having students gather their own data. Each sheet gives students a question to ask their classmates, space to record the responses they collect, and a graph where they add smiley faces to represent the results. It is a simple, hands-on way to connect the skill of reading a pictograph to actually building one.

These sheets work well for independent practice, math centers, small group instruction, or homework. Because everything is no-prep and includes answer keys, you can use them with confidence whether you are pulling a small group, setting up a station, or just need something ready to go for the whole class. The resource is aligned to first grade measurement and data standards, so it fits right into your existing math curriculum without any adjustments.
