This is a bundle of word family write the room activities that includes short A, E, I, O, and U words.

Perfect for kindergarten centers or whole group phonics activities and differentiated to meet the needs of every learner.

Word Family Picture/Word Cards

There are 100 picture/word cards – 4 for each of the following short vowel word families:

• ad, ag, an, ap, at
• ed, eg, en, et, ell
• ig, in, ip, it, ick
• ob, og, op, ot, ox
• ub, ug, um, un, ut

All of these cards are provided in 3 versions to provide differentiation:

• Set 1 – shows the entire word underneath the picture
• Set 2 – first letter only with Elkonin letter boxes for the rest of the word
• Set 3 – Elkonin letter boxes for the entire word

The word cards can be used alone for a variety of phonics and word work activities, or pair them with the coordinating worksheets:

Write the Room Worksheets

There are 8 different worksheets for each vowel (40 in all) that let students practice reading and writing words in the target word families:

• Find and Write – Students read the room to find the pictures shown on the worksheet and write the word that goes with each. There are two of these worksheets in each set, each with 10 different words.

• Spin and Find – Students spin, find the card with the matching number, and write the word. There are 3 versions of this worksheet so all students aren’t looking for the same cards at once.

• Short Vowel Word Families Hunt – When students find a word card, they write the word under the correct word family heading.

• Short Vowel Word Hunt – Students read the room to find and record as many words as they can. (May be a timed activity if you choose.)

• Short Vowel Word Families Word Search – Find and circle 9 different words.

Answer keys are provided for all of the worksheets.
