Description
This set of spring-themed Read and Write the Room activities gives your kindergarten and first-grade students a hands-on way to build vocabulary and word recognition skills during spring. Students get to move around the classroom, which helps keep them engaged and focused — and the illustrated word cards make this especially supportive for beginning readers and English Language Learners.
WHAT YOU WILL GET:
- 20 illustrated spring word wall cards
- 6 companion worksheets and recording sheets
- Answer keys
Spring Word Wall Cards:
There are 20 illustrated cards that you can post around your classroom for Read and Write the Room, use on your word wall, or pull out during writing time to help students with seasonal vocabulary. The words included are: bee, bird, butterfly, sunshine, frog, garden, seeds, seedling, snail, rain, leaf, nest, grass, egg, boots, umbrella, rainbow, kite, cloud, and puddle.
Worksheets and Recording Sheets:
Six worksheets go along with the word cards and work well in a literacy center or as a recording sheet during Write the Room. The activities cover a range of early literacy skills — short and long vowels, counting syllables, ABC order, two find-and-write activities, and a spring word search.
This resource can be used in your literacy centers, early finisher time, or as something to leave for a substitute. The word cards also double as vocabulary support during writing, which makes them useful beyond just the Read and Write the Room activity itself. If you work with ELLs or students who need extra scaffolding, the illustrated cards give them a visual reference that can make a real difference.
