This is a set of reading comprehension activities about the sun and the planets that focus on cause and effect and compare/contrast. This resource is a great way to integrate science topics into your reading instruction. It can also be used to teach students how to compare information between two texts on a similar topic.

COMPREHENSION PASSAGES

There are 9 one-page informational passages (one for each planet plus the sun) followed by a page comprehension questions that mostly focus on cause/effect and compare/contrast. Students must refer back to the text to find the answers. Includes open-response questions, graphic organizer tasks, and a few multiple choice items.

 

VOCABULARY

There is also a set of 16 vocabulary cards containing words from the text. These can be used to pre-teach academic science vocabulary or discuss new words as they are encountered.

 

GRAPHIC ORGANIZER

This can be used along with any of the passages to compare and contrast two different planets. It's a great way for students to summarize their learning or to organize their ideas before writing a compare/contrast piece

 

Answer keys are included.
